ABOUT TENNIS CLUB SANDWEILER
Founded in 1973 by a small group of friends, Tennis Club Sandweiler used to play only on one private tennis court, respectively in the communal sports hall in winter. At that time, the club rented courts from the National Institute of Sport in order to participate in the championships.
In 1978, with the precious help of the municipal administration, the Club' infrastructure was equipped with 3 tennis courts on the sports site, located in the rue de la gare. With this excellent tool for work and promotion of tennis, the Club was able to attract many young people to play tennis and represent the Club in competition.
In 1983, the clubhouse and changing rooms for members was inaugurated.
The year 1993 was marked, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Club, by the inauguration of our hall with an opening roof and 2 indoor tennis courts with carpet.
In 1997, our infrastructure was expanded with the replacement of a hard court by 2 clay courts.
January 18, 2000 is a black date in the history of the Club. A fire totally destroyed the Club House...
The current clubhouse was inaugurated in September 2003.
In 2011, the women's team (senior-veterans) from the Club became champion of Luxembourg by winning the final against the team of TC Arquebusiers. It took more than ten years and a lot of effort for this team to be rewarded. The Club still remain very proud about this amazing performance.
In May 2012, with great support from the Commune of Sandweiler, the indoor courts are renovated with the installation of Laykold (Green Set type) tennis courts, recognized as competition pitches by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
The year 2013 is marked by the 30th anniversary of the club.
